Canals, Wells, Computers & Playground

Aim
To help provide a canal, 5 wells, a bridge, playground equipment, and computers to Chhneah Chey Lu Village, Rudi Boa Center and New Future for Children Orphanage in Phnom Penh and Prey Veng Province, Cambodia.

The Building Hope for Cambodia project aimed at address the following:

• Improved provision and access to irrigation water for community rice farmers through the digging of an irrigation canal.
• Improved access to markets to sell rice crops for community farmers through the building of a bridge over a river that separated the community from markets.
• Improved health and wellness through clean drinking water through the digging of five community wells.
• Improved attendance at the local government school through providing the incentive of playing on a new playground at the school.
• Improved employ-ability for young adults in poverty stricken communities though providing computer literacy and proficiency with computer classes at 2 computer labs targeting key populations.

Teachers Across Borders Teacher Workshops

Aim
To provide teacher training workshops in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Battambang, and Kampong Thom. 

The original objective was to work with Teachers Across Borders (TAB), a U.S. NGO, to improve education skills of 550 Cambodia teachers in a workshop setting using U.S.-based volunteer teachers. The program trained 351 teachers using 44 American volunteer teachers. These teachers returned to the own classrooms with valuable insights and renewed passion for their own teaching. Many of the U.S. teachers applied for and received graduate credit for their volunteer experience. The school children of the Cambodia who will receive a better education and, in turn, be able to make a greater contribution to their country.

Water Filters for Schools in Kampot

To provide water filtering pots:

The project has placed 2,100 water filters in 1,169 classrooms at 150 schools in Kampot Province   and 1,000 water filters in Kandal Province as listed below:

242 filters for 12 schools (121 classrooms) in Teuk Chhou District.
304 filter for 29 schools (271 classrooms) in Chum Kiri District.
186 filters for 16 schools (93 classrooms) in Dang Tung District.
658 filters for 48 schools (329 classrooms) in Banteay Meas District.
710 filters for 45 schools (355 classrooms) in Angkor Chey District.
1,000 filters to 1,000 families with children in Phum Thom, Kandal Province.

Wells and Bio-sand Filters

Aim
To help provide five water wells and bio-sand filters to Phom Being Village in Chi Kraeng, Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The project’s beneficiaries will be one local elementary school with 350 pupils, and also 141 families in a village who are very challenged regarding water, and where several cases of water-borne diseases have been observed.

Sustainable Water Supplies for Farmers

Aim
To help provide a water well to the village of Lao Kar, Mondulkiri

The project consisted of:

  • Extensive renovation of the well to provide water for people, cattle, and culture.
  • Rice distributions to families who send their children to school.
  • Development of agriculture (irrigation, seeds, etc.) and cattle breeding ( buffalos, pigs, poultry ).
  • Distribution of school stationery, uniforms, standardized shoes and hygiene products , copy books, pencils, school bags.
  • Giving the villagers the means to work and to be self-sufficient.
  • With water, the villagers are able to grow vegetables (seeds and seedlings have been provided) and practice poultry farming and pig breeding. They also are able to learn crafts and sell their products.
